I'm torn about the relationship between Vampire Diaries costars Nina Dobrev, 22, and Ian Somerhalder, 32.
On one hand, amidst all of the unhappy Hollywood relationships, it's nice to see a man crazy about a woman. Us Weekly reported that the pair were all over each other at Comic-Con in San Diego last weekend. Further, they were "inseparable, Ian was very protective of Nina, and brought her cocktails. When she went to the bathroom, he waited patiently outside the restroom and smiled at her when she exited, paying special to her. He stroked her hair on numerous occasions in between making out with her."
On the other hand, I don't normally think it's a good idea for actresses to date their co-stars. It can reflect poorly on a woman who dates a colleague and it's hard to discern a man's motives. He might only want to date her for publicity. In Nina's case, hopefully she's in this with her eyes wide open.
Either way, Nina should play hard-to-get so that she can sustain Ian's interest -- maybe dial back all of the public smooching. She could also take the opportunity to socialize with other people at the parties she attends. It will leave Ian wanting more. If she keeps this up, her relationship could last.
